5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Region Northwest of Khasab
A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was recorded Friday afternoon, February 13, 2026, in the region northwest of Khasab, according to the Earthquake Monitoring Center (EMC) at Sultan Qaboos University.
The tremor occurred at approximately 3:08 PM local time, with the epicenter located roughly 386 kilometers northwest of Khasab, in a seismically active area of southern Iran. Preliminary data indicates the earthquake struck at a shallow depth of about 10 kilometers.
Although the epicenter is distant from the Musandam Peninsula, residents in high-rise buildings in Khasab and nearby areas of the northern Emirates reported feeling light swaying. Authorities have confirmed that there are no reports of injuries, structural damage, or disruptions to essential services in the Musandam Governorate as of Friday evening.
The EMC continues to monitor seismic activity in the region, advising residents to remain vigilant but noting that no immediate safety threats have been identified.
