Dubai, UAE — Authorities in Dubai have revealed a detailed traffic and public transport plan for the New Year’s Eve celebrations around Burj Khalifa, as hundreds of thousands of residents and visitors are expected to gather to welcome 2026.

Major roads in Downtown Dubai will be closed in phases from 4pm on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, with restrictions lasting into the early hours of January 1. The RTA has strongly urged the public to use metro and tram services to avoid congestion.

Metro Station Changes:

The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro Station will close to entry from 5pm onwards, or earlier if it reaches capacity. Commuters are advised to use Financial Centre or Business Bay stations as alternatives. To handle increased demand, the Red and Green Metro lines will operate continuously for 43 hours, from 5am on December 31 to 11:59pm on January 1.

Tram Service:

Dubai Tram will also run continuously from 6am on December 31 through 1am on January 2. Recommended metro stations with parking include Centrepoint, e& Station, National Paints (Jebel Ali), and Jumeirah Golf Estates. Passengers should check their Nol card balance before travel.

Pedestrian Bridge and Elevator Closures:

All pedestrian bridges and elevators spanning Dubai Creek will close from 4pm onwards, including:

  • Dubai Creek Harbour Pedestrian Bridge – 222m upper deck and 154m lower deck with views of Downtown Dubai.
  • Infinity Bridge – connects Al Shindagha to Al Ras with pedestrian and cycling tracks.
  • Shindagha Pedestrian Tunnel – a popular underwater walkway connecting Deira and Bur Dubai.

Authorities emphasize these measures are crucial for public safety and smooth traffic flow during one of the world’s largest New Year’s Eve celebrations.
