AWKI Says Iran Conflict Impact on Hajj and Umrah Could Disrupt Pilgrimage Plans

Jakarta – The Indonesian National Entrepreneurs Alliance (AWKI), a prominent business organization representing small and medium enterprises, has warned that the ongoing Iran conflict could affect the planning and departure schedules of this year’s Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages. AWKI officials highlighted that heightened tensions in the Middle East may disrupt travel arrangements and create challenges for pilgrims and authorities.

Yudhiawan Wibisono, a member of AWKI’s Advisory Board, said that delays in Umrah and Hajj departures are possible if the regional situation continues to be volatile. He also emphasized that the Iran conflict impact on Hajj and Umrah might have broader economic consequences for Indonesia, including potential losses of property and resources.

Another AWKI board member, retired Major General Rido Hermawan, pointed out that interruptions along the Strait of Hormuz — a key global energy passage — could affect fuel supply and pricing in Indonesia if the conflict persists. Hermawan urged government officials to consider energy conservation efforts and strengthen national food security in anticipation of possible disruptions.

AWKI Chair Robertus Rani Lopiga Taher also stressed the importance of reinforcing national unity and core values among Indonesian citizens as global tensions rise.

In response to the escalating situation, Indonesia’s Hajj and Umrah authorities have recommended that prospective pilgrims stay informed and consider postponing travel plans as a precaution. Government sources indicate that flight schedules and airspace routes may be adjusted due to the ongoing conflict.

Officials are closely monitoring nearly 59,000 Indonesian umrah pilgrims currently in Saudi Arabia and are encouraging calm and communication between pilgrims and travel organizers. The evolving situation underscores the importance of preparedness and flexibility for both departing and returning pilgrims.
