US Urges Citizens to Leave Iran Immediately Amid Rising Unrest

The United States has advised its citizens in Iran to leave the country without delay as tensions rise and security conditions deteriorate.

In a security alert issued Monday, the US government warned Americans to make plans to depart Iran immediately, urging them not to rely on official assistance for evacuation. The notice highlighted growing concerns over widespread protests, possible violence, arrests, internet disruptions, and tighter security measures.

Officials cautioned that anyone seen as having links to the United States could face detention. The alert also reminded travelers that Iran does not recognize dual nationality, meaning US-Iranian citizens are treated solely as Iranian nationals under local law.

American citizens were encouraged to consider leaving by land routes, including through neighboring countries such as Armenia or Türkiye, if it is safe to do so. Those unable to leave were advised to remain in secure locations, avoid public gatherings, keep a low profile, and ensure they have adequate supplies of food, water, and essential medication.

The United States currently has no diplomatic or consular presence in Iran. In emergency situations, the Swiss Embassy in Tehran serves as the protecting authority for US interests.

The warning reflects growing international concern over the safety of foreign nationals as unrest continues to spread across the country, raising fears of further instability in the days ahead.
