Saudi Cabinet Condemns Iranian Aggression as Regional Tensions Rise
Saudi Arabia has issued a strong warning against Iran following a series of drone and missile attacks targeting its capital and Eastern Province, affirming the Kingdom’s full right to respond to threats.
The Cabinet session, chaired virtually by Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, emphasized solidarity with neighboring countries affected by Iran’s “blatant” acts of aggression. The Saudi leadership condemned the recent strikes as “cowardly” and in violation of international diplomatic norms.
Saudi defense officials reported that while air defenses intercepted most of the incoming threats, the US Embassy in Riyadh sustained a limited fire and minor material damage. Additionally, eight drones targeting Riyadh and Al-Kharj were successfully intercepted by Saudi forces.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted that these provocations breach both the 1949 Geneva Convention and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, warning that repeated Iranian hostility risks escalating regional instability.
The Cabinet expressed appreciation for international support, noting that the US, GCC member states—including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE—and Jordan have condemned Tehran’s actions as a dangerous escalation. Leaders from the UK, France, and India voiced solidarity with Riyadh, reinforcing a collective stance on regional security.
Amid ongoing tensions, Saudi Arabia is also assisting stranded GCC citizens affected by airspace closures, ensuring humanitarian support and logistical coordination. The crown prince reaffirmed that all available resources would be mobilized to support regional peace and stability.
