Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones as UK Affirms Support for the Region
Saudi Arabia Intercepts Drones Over Kingdom Amid Rising Regional Tensions
Saudi Arabia’s defense forces successfully intercepted multiple drones and missiles over the kingdom on Wednesday, reinforcing security measures amid ongoing regional tensions.
Major General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Defense, confirmed that nine drones were intercepted and neutralized, including one in the Eastern Region. Additionally, two cruise missiles were destroyed in Al-Kharj Governorate. Authorities reported that the incidents caused only minor material damage, with no injuries to personnel.
The strikes followed earlier Iranian attacks targeting the US Embassy in Riyadh. While preliminary assessments indicated that the embassy sustained limited fire and minor damage, all staff were reported safe. Saudi defense officials emphasized the kingdom’s readiness to counter aerial threats and protect key facilities.
In a statement addressing the escalating situation, the United Kingdom reaffirmed its support for Saudi Arabia and regional partners. UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper described the attacks as “reckless and destabilizing” and condemned any actions targeting civilians. She underscored the importance of regional cooperation to maintain stability and security.
Saudi authorities continue to monitor the airspace closely, with enhanced defensive measures deployed across strategic locations. Residents and diplomats in Riyadh are advised to remain vigilant, while defense forces maintain readiness to intercept any further threats.
The Kingdom remains committed to ensuring the safety of its citizens and diplomatic missions while coordinating with international partners to address ongoing security challenges in the region.
