DOHA – Qatar shoots down two Iranian jets after the aircraft reportedly entered Qatari airspace amid escalating regional tensions, according to the country’s defense ministry.

Officials stated that the Qatar Emiri Air Force downed two SU-24 fighter jets approaching from Iran. Air defense systems were also activated to intercept seven ballistic missiles and several drones targeting key areas across the country.

Authorities said multiple aerial threats were neutralized, including drones aimed at strategic infrastructure sites. One drone reportedly targeted an energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, while another was directed toward a water storage unit connected to a power plant in Mesaieed, both critical to the country’s energy operations.

Despite the attacks, officials confirmed there were no casualties. Some precautionary safety measures were implemented at affected facilities, but essential services remained under control.

The incident marks a significant escalation in Gulf security dynamics, as it is the first reported instance of a Gulf nation directly engaging manned Iranian aircraft during the current wave of military exchanges.
