Pentagon Chief to Brief on US-Israel Strikes in Iran
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth to Address Iran Military Campaign
The Pentagon announced that Chief Pete Hegseth will hold his first press conference on Monday morning regarding the ongoing joint US-Israel military operation against Iran. This marks the first briefing by a senior Pentagon official since the strikes began over the weekend.
The press conference is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. local time (1300 GMT), where Hegseth will provide details on the scope and progress of the campaign. Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will also participate to answer questions from the media.
Following the briefing, Hegseth is set to meet with members of Congress alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio to update lawmakers on the military operation’s developments. The move comes amid criticism from opposition Democrats, who raised concerns about the lack of prior consultation before the strikes were launched.
The US and Israeli forces carried out air and missile attacks on Iran on Saturday, targeting key military installations. Iranian authorities confirmed that one of the strikes in Tehran resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, escalating regional tensions and drawing global attention to the conflict.
Analysts note that the Pentagon briefing is critical for providing transparency about the operation’s objectives, potential risks, and next steps, while emphasizing coordination between US and Israeli military forces.
