Landslide in Indonesia’s West Java Leaves 7 Dead, Over 80 Missing

At least seven people have died and more than 80 remain missing after a landslide struck Indonesia’s West Java province, local authorities confirmed.

The disaster hit the West Bandung area, southeast of the capital Jakarta, following several days of heavy rainfall. Officials reported that over 30 homes were buried under mud and debris, causing fatalities and displacing residents.

The landslide occurred in the village of Pasirlangu early Saturday morning at around 02:30 local time. Rescue teams managed to evacuate two dozen residents safely from the affected areas, but many remain unaccounted for.

Indonesia’s disaster mitigation agency has issued alerts for flooding, landslides, and extreme weather across the broader region. Local authorities continue search and rescue operations amid challenging conditions, as heavy rain has made access to the site difficult.

Images from the affected village show homes completely submerged under mud, highlighting the scale of destruction caused by the natural disaster. Emergency teams are urging residents to stay vigilant and follow safety instructions as operations continue.
