Kiefer Sutherland Arrested Following Alleged Assault of Ride-Share Driver

Los Angeles — Actor Kiefer Sutherland, 59, has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver in Hollywood, according to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD).

Police said the incident occurred at around 12:15 a.m. local time on Monday at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue. Sutherland is accused of entering the ride-share vehicle, physically assaulting the driver, and making criminal threats. Authorities confirmed that the victim was not injured.

Sutherland was released after posting a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on 2 February. The LAPD’s Hollywood Division is continuing to investigate the matter.

The actor, best known for his role as special agent Jack Bauer in the television series 24 and as the US president in Designated Survivor, is the son of actor Donald Sutherland.

Sutherland has a history of arrests, including a 2007 sentence of 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and probation violations. He was also arrested for assault in 2009, though the charges were later dropped, and was most recently detained in 2020 for an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
