IDF Positions Forces in “Forward Defense” Move, Issues Evacuation Warnings Across Lebanon

JERUSALEM – Israel has reinforced its military presence along the Lebanon border, describing the deployment as a “forward defense” step aimed at protecting Israeli communities near the frontier.

Military officials confirmed that additional troops have been stationed at multiple points in southern Lebanon to deter potential attacks by Hezbollah. A spokesperson clarified that the move does not signal the start of a ground invasion but is intended as a precautionary security measure.

The Israeli army also issued urgent evacuation notices covering dozens of locations across Lebanon. Residents in approximately 50 areas were advised to leave immediately due to anticipated military operations targeting what Israel described as Hezbollah-linked facilities.

Warnings were specifically directed at civilians in Beirut’s southern districts of Ghobeiry and Haret Hreik, where the military indicated possible imminent action.

Lebanon’s government recently announced a ban on Hezbollah’s military and security operations — a rare political decision that the Iran-backed group strongly condemned.

Hezbollah said it launched rockets and drones toward Israel earlier this week. In response, Israeli forces carried out airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs and several villages in southern Lebanon.

According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, the strikes resulted in at least 31 fatalities and more than 140 injuries.

The developments mark a significant escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border, with both sides increasing military readiness amid concerns of a broader regional confrontation.
