Indonesia Foreign Minister: Gaza Force Temporary, Two-State Solution Remains Goal

JAKARTA: Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono emphasized on Wednesday that the international stabilization force deployed in Gaza is a “temporary measure,” reaffirming that a two-state solution between Israel and Palestine remains the ultimate objective.

Speaking at a press briefing, Sugiono said the international presence in Gaza is aimed at ensuring short-term stability and providing humanitarian support amid ongoing tensions, but it does not replace the need for a lasting political resolution.

“The deployment of international forces is necessary to stabilize the current situation, but it is a stopgap measure,” Sugiono explained. “Indonesia continues to advocate for a peaceful, negotiated solution that upholds the rights of both Palestinians and Israelis.”

Sugiono reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to international diplomatic efforts and multilateral cooperation to support Gaza’s recovery while pushing for renewed peace talks. He stressed that the two-state solution remains the cornerstone of Indonesia’s policy on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, in line with longstanding United Nations resolutions.

The foreign minister also highlighted Indonesia’s ongoing humanitarian initiatives in Gaza, including medical aid, infrastructure support, and coordination with international organizations to address immediate needs of affected communities.

“This is not a permanent intervention,” Sugiono added. “Our priority is to see Gaza stabilized, humanitarian needs met, and negotiations resumed for a lasting peace that ensures security and sovereignty for both peoples.”

Indonesia, a leading voice among Muslim-majority countries on the Palestinian issue, continues to urge global actors to support constructive dialogue and avoid unilateral measures that could escalate tensions in the region.
