France President Meets Denmark and Greenland Leaders to Reaffirm European Solidarity

France president meets Denmark Greenland leaders

France’s president, Emmanuel Macron, will meet the leaders of Denmark and Greenland in Paris on Wednesday for a working lunch, the presidential office confirmed on Tuesday.

The discussions are set to focus on reaffirming European solidarity, as well as France’s support for Denmark and Greenland, their sovereignty, and territorial integrity. Officials said the meeting will also address economic and social development projects in Greenland, which France and the European Union are prepared to support.

The summit comes after US President Donald Trump backed down from previous threats to seize Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory rich in minerals. French authorities have indicated that the meeting will also cover security concerns in the Arctic region amid growing geopolitical tensions involving Russia and other international actors.

Ahead of the Paris meeting, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen engaged with European allies, including visits to Hamburg and Berlin, to strengthen regional cooperation on security and development issues.

France has reinforced its commitment to European unity in the Arctic, with plans to open a consulate in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, next month. Macron’s engagement underscores France’s broader strategy to maintain a strong presence in the Arctic and support the interests of European partners.

The three leaders are expected to explore joint initiatives that combine regional security, sustainable development, and economic growth in Greenland, highlighting the importance of international collaboration in strategically sensitive areas.
