Buddha Air Plane Skids Off Runway in Nepal, All On Board Safe

An aircraft operated by Buddha Air slid beyond the runway while landing at Bhadrapur Airport in eastern Nepal late Friday, prompting emergency procedures at the airport. All passengers and crew on board were safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.

The turboprop aircraft was operating a scheduled domestic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur with 51 passengers and four crew members. The flight departed the capital in the evening and encountered the incident during the landing phase at around 9:08pm.

According to information provided by the airline, the aircraft overran the runway by approximately 200 metres before coming to a stop in a grassy area near the edge of the airfield. The aircraft sustained minor damage, and there was no fire or significant structural impact.

Airport emergency services were immediately activated after the aircraft came to rest. Passengers and crew were evacuated in an orderly manner as a precaution, and no medical assistance was required.

A senior local administration official confirmed that all individuals on board were accounted for and unharmed. The flight was the last scheduled service of the day on the Kathmandu–Bhadrapur route.

Buddha Air said a technical inspection team has been dispatched to assess the aircraft and identify the cause of the runway overrun. The airline added that safety protocols were followed and that it is cooperating with aviation authorities as part of standard procedures.

Airport operations were briefly affected while safety assessments were conducted. Further updates are expected following the completion of the technical review.
