Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has died after his plane crash-landed in his Baramati constituency. The Ajit Pawar plane crash also claimed the lives of two staff members and two crew members.

The Learjet 45, operated by VSR, was approaching Baramati airport when it crashed. Eyewitnesses reported explosions and a large fire, which made rescue efforts extremely difficult.

Ajit Pawar, 66, was a prominent political figure in Maharashtra, particularly in the state’s sugar belt, and was traveling to a public rally for district council elections.

The Maharashtra government has declared three days of mourning, with flags at half-staff, closures of offices and schools, and cancellation of public events. Authorities are investigating the cause of the Ajit Pawar plane crash, but no official explanation has been released.
